Cleaner quotes and invoices
The type column is gone from printed quotes and invoices, and labor, parts and fees now each get their own total above the subtotal.
What has changed in TorqueBench, newest first. Only changes a shop can see or use are listed here.
The type column is gone from printed quotes and invoices, and labor, parts and fees now each get their own total above the subtotal.
Add a fee by name, like Shop supplies, and save it with its price. Next time you start typing, it pops up like a part number. Fees come in non-taxed, with a tax option on each line.
Changing a part's price on a quote can now update the catalog too: tick the checkbox on the line and the quoted price becomes the new list price. Unticked, the catalog stays as it was.
Each ticket now has a customer note. Whatever you write there prints on the invoice.
Main actions are easier to spot in orange. Parts and Admin show the current section, and in-page shortcuts land clear of the sticky navigation on phone and desktop.
The diary's + Appointment form now starts on today when you are looking at the current week.
Every date and time in the app now shows in your shop's time zone, so nothing looks a day off in the evening.
Printed tickets now leave a blank line for mileage out, so it can be filled in by hand at pickup.
Notes got a rework: add a note from the Counter, mark it Whole shop or Just me, and see your own in the My notes panels. Done and Delete keep the list tidy.
The owner now has a Branding section in Admin. Add your logo (any size, it is shrunk to fit and keeps its proportions), your shop name, address and phone, and a note of up to 2000 characters for things like storage fees, warranty and disclaimers. It all prints on every estimate and invoice. Line breaks in your note are kept.
Each part now has an Edit button. Change the description, cost or price without touching the stock count. On a desktop the form opens full width under the part, and on a phone it stacks.
Clock in and clock out times now show in the time zone of the phone or computer you are looking at, so nothing needs setting up.
Adding a tech note, clocking in and clocking out now keep you where you were on the ticket. No more scrolling back down after every tap.
On a job line, type a part number and the description and price fill in from your inventory. Not in inventory yet? Tick Save to inventory and it is added at zero on hand. That tickbox only shows when the part number is new, and the fine print under it is shorter.
Internal notes for the bench: what you found, what you did, what is next. Each note carries the time and who wrote it. They never print and are never sent to the customer.
Techs clock in and out on the ticket they are working. Owners and managers can clock a teammate in or out. Running time shows live, and finished time adds to Actual labor next to your estimate. Typing minutes in by hand is still there, tucked under Log time manually.
One control now: Add tech. The first tech added is the lead. Make lead swaps the lead, Remove takes a tech off. Up to 10 extra techs per ticket. Everyone on a ticket can see it and clock in on it.
The top menu is six items that fit a phone: Counter, Tickets, Diary, Parts, Customers, Admin. One Find box searches tickets, customers and parts. The numbers on the Counter page are tappable and open the matching list. The words "work order" and "job" are now "ticket" everywhere.
On the ticket, status sits at the top with one control for the next step. Sections follow the order of the job. On a phone, Photos and Customer updates fold away until you open them. Admin and Parts have a jump bar at the top, and Pilot now lives under Admin.
Supplier search is open on a desktop and folds away on a phone. The inventory search box runs the full width and reads Search by SKU or description. The supplier search hint fits its box. If no supplier is set up yet, Draft POs says so and links to where to add one, instead of showing an empty list.
Scanning a ticket barcode failed on tickets that show the payment form. It now opens the ticket there too.
If your role does not cover a page, you now get a service-ticket style note with a button back, instead of a bare error. It says MANAGERS ONLY, OFF YOUR BENCH or NOT YOUR TICKET, whichever applies.
Even spacing between controls, section headings and buttons on tickets, Admin and Parts, on phone and desktop. Nothing clipped or crowded.
Scan the WO- code printed on a ticket with a keyboard-style barcode scanner and that ticket opens, from most screens in the app. A scan never types into the box you were in or submits a form half filled. Techs can only open tickets they are assigned to.
Record mileage IN when opening a ticket and mileage OUT when the bike goes back to the customer. Readings such as 123,456 now save correctly, including the comma. The ticket, estimate and invoice use the readings saved on that ticket.
Wrote the quote before the bike arrived? Owners and managers can use Edit ticket mileage to add the missing IN reading later. Saved IN and OUT readings can also be corrected with a reason. Each change is logged, and correcting OUT keeps the original return date and time.
Labor, parts and fees each have their own tax setting. Turn tax on or off for one line without changing the rest of the ticket.
New labor lines start untaxed. Owners can change that default in Shop settings for future lines. Existing lines keep their own setting.
Tap a description, quantity, hours or price to edit it in place. The change saves when you leave the field. Tap the line background or its type for inventory, discount and tax options. Arrows move the line up or down; the x voids it after confirmation.
If the customer already approved the estimate, changing a line asks for a reason and confirmation. The original approval stays on record, and printed estimates and invoices flag that the lines changed after approval.
Lines linked to inventory now show the part number under the description on the ticket, estimate and invoice. Hand-typed lines stay manual unless you select an inventory part.
An unmatched hand-typed part line now offers Save to inventory at 0. Nothing is created automatically. Owners and managers review the description and enter a part number / SKU before saving.
The new inventory item starts with zero on hand and the quoted selling price. An existing SKU or exact description match is refused, even with different capitalization. The current quote line stays manual, so creating the item does not change the quote or deduct stock. Future tickets can select the item from inventory. Check spelling to avoid similar duplicates.
Added another layer of checks to keep shop records separate. Tickets, customers, inventory and diary links are checked against the signed-in shop.
The Parts counter puts your shop inventory above supplier searches. Search by part number or description, jump to a starting letter or number, filter to in-stock items, and page through the results. Your shelf stock and supplier results are kept separate. On phones, supplier results and order drafts are easier to read.
Import starting stock counts from a CSV under Admin, Import data. The preview shows what will load and what needs checking. It matches existing part numbers and fills positive counts only where the current count is zero. Zero counts, negative counts, unknown parts and items that already have stock are left unchanged.
Enter a dollar amount or percentage to discount one job line or the whole invoice. Totals, estimates and invoices show the discount. A discount cannot take more than the amount it applies to.
Owners and managers can assign a technician when opening a ticket or change the assignment on the ticket. Techs see their assigned work orders, not other technicians' tickets.
Under Admin, owners can change a teammate's role, disable their shop access or re-enable it. The shop must keep at least one active owner. Team names, emails and role controls are easier to read on smaller screens.
Phone ticket-status buttons fit better, links and buttons have more space, and signed-out pages no longer show the staff menu. Error pages now explain the problem and give you a way back.
Added checks for two people logging payments at once. Repeated voids no longer put the same part back into stock twice. Shop accounts no longer have a database-backup download; contact support for a shop-data export.
Owners can now void a logged payment with a reason. The balance updates and the voided line stays on the ticket for the record. A payment larger than the balance due is now refused.
Bring in your bike list from a CSV. We match each bike to its customer, skip repeats, and tell you which rows to fix. Imports also warn about odd-looking emails and give a clear message if a file isn't a CSV.
Every past export batch now has a Download button. Tax and inventory adjustment exports now include their rows.
Dollar amounts, dates, phone numbers and ticket codes stay on one line everywhere, and long tables scroll sideways on a phone instead of breaking.
Every ticket now has one big button at the top for the next step: record the customer's answer on an estimate, start work, mark ready for pickup, log the payment, or close the ticket. Opening a new work order is quicker too. Type a name or phone to find the customer, add the bike and the complaint, and you're done. VIN, plate, mileage, bay and the rest are tucked under More details.
The front counter now has a big New work order button. On a ticket, a row of shortcuts (Add line, Payment, Status, Print) jumps you to the right spot and stays in reach as you scroll. When a ticket is ready, the payment amount is already filled in with the balance due. On phones, buttons and links are bigger and easier to tap, the menu keeps its place when you move between pages, and the customer list is easier to read.
Parts you pick from inventory now come off your shelf count when you add the line, estimates included. Void the line or the whole work order and they go back. Receiving stock and setting a count on the Parts page are saved safely even if two people work at once. Low and out-of-stock tags show on the ticket. A sale is never blocked.
There is a new "help" link in the top bar. It opens a short Contact support form (subject and message). Your message goes to the TorqueBench team with your shop name and email attached, and our reply comes straight to you.
Inviting someone to your shop now emails them the link automatically. The invite button now reads "Send invite", and the join page got the same workbench look as the rest of the app.
Fixed: printed invoices now lay out cleanly on Letter and A4.
The sign-in page now has a "Forgot your password?" link. Enter your email and, if it matches an account, we send a reset link. The link works once and expires after 30 minutes.
The page gives the same answer whether or not the email has an account.
New staff logins can now get their setup link by email. They open it once to choose their own password.
Under Admin, Import data, you can upload a CSV file or paste rows for customers or parts. You see a preview before anything is saved. Bad rows are listed and skipped, and existing records are never overwritten.
Shop settings now hold a default labor rate, your shop address and your phone number. Printed estimates and invoices show the address and phone.
New owners now get a single-use setup link, valid for seven days, to choose their own password.
Every user can now change their own password. A login that was given a temporary password is asked to change it at first sign-in.
